Henry Miller Library, Big Sur upcoming events
I interviewed Sasha who runs the Henry Miller Library about 6 years ago, because it’s heaven on earth. Continuing Miller’s vision and legacy there of enjoying this coastal oasis with music, literature workshops and film festivals is the way to go go go. He’s doing a great job, and I always have an awesome time. Once, we were just driving through and decided to stop by and enjoyed Open Mic night where locals did stand-up comedy, played guitar and chilled out.
It’s an inclusive joint and with all the support from different celebrities and patrons wanting to collaborate, it will hopefully thrive for decades to come. John Waters one man show coming up and he quotes, "We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books…don’t fuck them". Damn straight.
I saw Glass 2 years ago just blast the SF Symphony venue with 5 hours of non-stop arpeggio piano. I almost fell out of the balcony above his seat completely entranced. I also loved that during intermission we all had champagne sitting in the lobby on the floor. Everyone else was munching boxed dinners. It was a more casual open vibe in what might normally be a snooty affair by the furred and the dazzled. I think they should save the outdoor balcony for non-smokers!
Anyway, outdoors here it’s no matter. But just when I thought the Russian River was thew new Big Sur, they’re making plenty of cause to head down. Starting tomorrow for the Woodsist Festival. My new fave band is Woods… so-o—o howlin’ good. Click the link below for some tubes.
July 30-31 Woodsist Festival: Woods, TheeOhSees, Ty Segall, Sun Araw, Sic Alps
Aug. 13 John Waters live one man show benefit
Sept. 1 Philip Glass and Philip Glass Ensemble performs to Dracula
