Cover of Issue 4: Ryan McGinley “Discomfort of Sculpture”
I was just thinking about things people said, stupid shit about art like, “Oh paintings are easier to collect than sculpture. No one’s got room for that.” And just thinking about how the body physically relates to making sculptures in a certain scale because that’s how they’re made with our physical limitations unless they’re factory-produced. And then just how a model in a photo shoot like Ryan’s or any fashion shoot, commerce shoot has to really put themselves in weird awkward positions to make those diagonals that everyone wants to see in that perfect Z. And Daniel really lives in a space that is inhabited with his ping pong ball sculptures as a solution to a small room. What the psychology of making a space is like.
